About the Book

An ocean-drenched, atmospheric horror debut! Liv's best friend disappears on their first night aboard their dream semester-at-sea program—but is he really sick, like everyone says, or is something darker lurking beneath the water?

It
should have been the trip of a lifetime.

When Liv lands an all-expenses-paid opportunity to study aboard the luxury cruise ship
The Eos for a semester, she can’t believe her luck. Especially since it will offer her the chance to spend time with Will, her ex–best friend, who’s barely spoken to her since the night their relationship changed forever.

But as soon as she steps on board, Liv realizes just how out of her depth she is. With Will, with the rest of the Seamester students—including the brittle and beautiful Constantine, who may be hiding his own ties to the
Eos—and most of all, with the Sirens, three glamorous and mysterious influencers who seem to have the run of the ship.

Liv quickly discovers that the only reason she was invited to join the trip is because another girl disappeared shortly after enrolling—and no one seems to know what happened to her. When further disappearances rock the ship and strange creatures begin haunting Liv’s dreams, she wonders: Is the
Eos hiding a dark secret within its shadowy decks?

The truth will come at a price . . . only, how much is Liv willing to pay?

Worth A Shot

I bought this to try out the concept that Once Upon a Book Club has. Figured if nothing else at least there is good art on the cover. It is a great mystery at sea book. The gifts correlate very well with what is happening in the story and giving it a nice little twist. My favorite gift was the last one personally. This is the perfect book for this concept as it is a bit of a slow start so having those gifts to strive for gets you driving through that. Heads up for anyone who this may be a dealbreaker for. The ending is very much in the style of "Draw your own conclusion" but if that isn't an issue to you then this box is definitely a good purchase.

Gifts were well themed, book was unsatisfying.

The gifts were very on point, and pretty interesting. I'm using two as I type, but the book was only okay. The mystery was fine, it was interesting enough to keep my attention, but not gripping. The ending though was awful. Most of the mystery was answered, but the ending was so open ended that I have no idea what happened... in a bad way. Open endings can be good, if they leave you with thought provoking questions and interesting ways for the characters to go. This did none of that, it just felt like it was creating more questions that should be answered. It felt rushed and sudden, not interesting and thoughtful. The mystery itself was based on Greek mythology and had some really interesting points, but the gaslighting got to be very frustrating. I understand she was trying to go for a Cassandra-like character, but eventually there were times where she went to a specific other character and I was just frustrated and yelling at the book, "he's not going to be helpful, he's in on it!" She simultaneously felt smart and dumb. But it would have been a 3.5-4 star book if the end hadn't been so bad.
